One opening available for the position of Physics Teacher with the following qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Physics. Also requires 3 years of experience teaching physics in a charter school setting and 3 years coaching Science Olympiad teams for regional, state, national and international competitions. Educator's Certificate in Physics is also required per state law.
Duties will include:
Instruct high school students in the subject area of physics. Coach Science Olympiad teams for regional, state, national and international competitions. Design interdisciplinary learning experiences that fulfill State standards and that are consistent with the school’s mission of providing an intellectually stimulating and technology driven education focused on science and mathematics. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests, using flexible grouping based on on-going assessment to confer with students and provide differentiated instruction. Select instructional practices, compelling topics, in-depth investigations, and detailed project plans to include plans for integrating interdisciplinary instruction as well as to promote character development in students. Guide students as they explore the school’s problem-centered curriculum and develop an in-depth understanding of important scientific concepts embedded within each activity. Expose students to problem solving, communication, and reasoning activities through laboratory experiments and real-world applications. Utilize a variety of teaching methodologies, including lectures, class discussions, and structured study teams as well as innovative instructional methods such as project-based instruction, computer-enhanced activities, and other equipment and materials to encourage students to develop a positive attitude toward physics and facilitate the learning of science. Promote the students’ academic potential and interest in physics through guided instruction, individual and teamwork, tactile and kinesthetic activities, data collection, class work, and homework activities.
